Contract - immediate start in Shoreditch. Minimum 3 months, possible extension.

We are looking for a senior Linux Systems Administrator who has a track record of at least 4 years of experience providing efficient support to a live SaaS Platform.

You will be responsible for:

  • Authoring and maintaining build and deploy scripts in close cooperation with developers
  • Researching, evaluating, architecting, procuring and implementing new bare-metal infrastructure to support business needs
  • Proactively identifying, researching and resolving technical problems
  • Ability to travel to our on-site customers or our own data centres
  • Being part of the on-call team responsible for the health of 24/7 production sites (we have a third party first line support company for initial issues but all members of the sysops team provide support for escalated issues)
  • Any other reasonable tasks or projects as requested by your line manager

Qualification criteria

  • BSc/BEng (or equivalent) in a Maths, Physics, Computer Science/equiv (essential)
  • Holds existing UK government security clearance (SC/DV) (very desirable)

Key Skills, ie essential

  • Linux/Unix server administration
  • at least one infrastructure automation/infrastructure-as-code tool (e.g. chef/puppet/ansible/terraform)
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present complex infrastructure ideas to a non-expert audience
  • Strong scripting skills
  • Strong networking skills and experience with Cisco or HP switches/router

Knowledge and experience

  • An understanding of security best practices
  • A good understanding of generic RAID / SAN / JBOD storage systems
  • Experience of working at physical co-location facilities/data centres and confidence with performing hardware maintenance on servers

Desirable

  • Knowledge/experience of GlusterFS
  • Experience in real-time traffic testing (firewalls, port forwarding, etc.)
  • Knowledge of system and network security (IPS/IDS, firewalls, user management)
  • The ability to set up redundant networks and familiarity with BGP and OSPF network protocols
